So you may remember me telling you about a new restaurant coming to the corner of Tchop and Canal, you know it was only a few posts ago. If you need a refresher, it’s right here. Well, there has been a slight change in plans, I think. One of three things has happened:
1. They’ve changed their name;
2. That corner is about to get very restaurant heavy; or,
3. There is an elaborate plot afoot to make me look stupid.
Considering it takes very little to make me look foolish, I’m going to have to go with 1 or 2. My ego asserts that 3 is the only likely solution. What the hell am I talking about? Don’t worry, I’m getting there.
I passed by these buildings the other day and a new banner was up, one advertising the touristically horrific “Jazz Cafe.” Ugh. Common sense tells me that the owners decided Geisha Sushi wasn’t “cajun” or “creole” enough to make it that close to the French Quarter, so they decided to convert to a crappy tourist trap hole slinging stuff our fine visitors from the Midwest will enjoy. Yeah that stuff, the bland, lamed down version of New Orleans food found all over the French Quarter.
The optimist in me is holding out hope that something else is afoot down there. You see, the banner was hanging over a different building than the banner for Geisha Sushi. Granted they are connected, but a boy can dream. Right? The other part of it is that the writing on the sign was fancy and not touristy. You know, no musical notes or horns or mardi gras masks surrounding some Mickey Mouse lettering. The final part is that Geisha Sushi promised us an opening in Fall 2010, which they’ve clearly missed. Maybe they’re just fixing their sign.
I’ll let you know as soon as I find out something more. Know anything? Let us know.
